Today, we learned about the grid system and how to use it to our advantage when making newsletters or even news articles and editorial spreads. We were asked to fold an A4 piece of paper into the grids as shown above. After much struggle among my classmates and I, and with the help of Ms Teh, we finally figured out how to get to Step 4 (at least).
The grid system will be used in helping us to figure out where to position the different components of each page in the newsletter we will be making for our group project, which include the headers, sub-headers, text content and picture content of our newsletter. The grid system provides us with a guideline that helps a lot in things like how wide the components should be or where exactly they should be placed.
My groupmates and I are planning to do our project on Spotify, a popular online music player; we already have some ideas on what it could like, thanks to Alternative Press, a music magazine from the US. Although a newsletter is quite different from a magazine, we're planning to go for it from a different aspects.
