Earlier on, we were taught about good and bad advertising and the factors which make up good advertising. This made me more aware of all the advertisements which surround me everywhere I go. Last Sunday, I went to Orchard Rd with my mum and little sister and we took 518 from our house to get there. While in the bus, we passed by a few bus stops which had the billboards situated beside them. One of them was an advertisement for a Dora The Explorer concert here in Singapore which caught my mum's eye.
I proceeded to snap a photo of the advertisement to get the details of the concert, such as the date, the venue and where to get the tickets. With the advancement of technology nowadays, you can find out information about anything by just searching it up on Google, which is what my mum and I immediately went on to do. We found out the price of the tickets soon after, and my mum and we headed to the Sistic counter at ION Orchard on that same day to purchase two tickets (one for my mum and one for my sister). I thought about it today, and I realised that if we hadn't seen the poster of Dora when passing by the busstop, we wouldn't even have
known about the concert.
What I like about the advertisement is the fact that the faces of the characters from Dora The Explorer occupy a large amount of the space, which makes it easier for the people who look at it register what the poster is about. Take my mum and I, for example: we managed to understand what the advertisement was trying to tell us with just a single glance, from our seats inside a moving bus. The poster is memorable and impactful, which is a key factor of good advertising. I feel that this promotional poster is one of the most important things that causes most ticket sales.
