During today's EGD lesson, we were taught the basics of using Adobe Illustrator and one of the things we got to learn to do during the 4 hour lesson was typography, which reminded me of this promotional poster for the 51st Annual GRAMMY Awards in 2009. The Recording Academy had hired the advertising agency TBWA\Chiat\Day to produce a series of typographic posters to promote the nominees for the 51st Annual GRAMMY Awards. What I love most about the posters are the fact that they were done 100% with typography. The designers had used the titles of songs which inspire each nominee to form illustrations which closely, if not completely, resembled the face of each nominee.

The one of Rihanna, shown above, is very easily recognisable which I found amazing since the poster was comprised entirely of letters and nothing else. Upon closer inspection, you can tell that various fonts were used for the different song titles.  Despite that, there is a regular rhythm that can be observed as the repeated song titles are of the same font but in different sizes or colours. There is an asymmetrical balance in the poster as the top part of the poster, which makes up Rihanna's hair, makes use of bigger words compared to the bottom part, which makes use of smaller words.
