For today's EGD tutorial, we were given a brief introduction to one of my most favourite things we ever learned: typography!!! We'd already been taught the basics of the Type Tool when we started learning Illustrator, with kerning, leading and tracking, which happen to play important parts in typography. The mustard buttle on the left side of the photo attached above is an example of a
bad typography advertisement, and the mustard bottle right side is what a
good typography advertisement should look like. Simply said, the spaces between characters, or kerning, in a word should be equal, which is depicted by the bottle on the right. It's clear by the photos that it is much neater and more pleasant to look at if the spaces between each character are equal.
Basically, what we learned today are the keys to making good typography graphics. We were also taught the anatomy of typography: the stem, the bowl, the bar, the descendent, the ascendent, the height & the arm are some examples.
On that note, I really like what I've done so far for my second assignment and I hope we get to learn more about typography soon :)
